We had an old vaccuum that was very ineffective. We finally decided to put it to rest, and replaced it with the Hoover Wind Tunnel. Wow, what a difference! Ok, I know - it's just a vacuum, but if you're like me and have gone through 4 or 5 other vacuums and have always been disappointed - I guarantee you: the Miele will not let you down. You can see online demonstrations of it's sealed canister system at YouTube, which for allergy sufferers or others concerned about vacuums that just recirculate the dirt, is of utmost importance. But beyond that, this is just one beautiful little machine. If you've shelled out hundreds for a Dyson only to be disappointed by it's flimsy plastic construction, you will be impressed by the Miele. Every piece is solid - especially the wand which is so sturdy and well crafted it feels more like a precision built part for a fighter jet than a part for a vacuum. The only downside to this sturdy construction is that it does make the wand a bit heavy, but I will take that over flimsy construction any day. We have had iRobot Roomba 532 for a month now and we like it. It is nice that you can do two things at once. It does a thorough job and out dog adapted to it very quickly. It does need to be cleaned a lot, but with that said is easy to clean and maintain. We wish we had three of them since it really only does one room at a time. It came with two virtual walls, but because we have so many doorways in our house, we could use two more.

I just received my Dyson DC15 today and it it incredible. It works superbly on bare hardwood floors as well as upholstery. I have two dogs and they are always running around on my bed. One of them sheds ridiculous amounts of hair and shows on the bed sheets. After using the Dyson to clean the whole house I used it on the bed and I was amazed at how much hair it took of the sheets.

I definitely recommend this product to anybody that needs a great vacuum and is a pet owner.

I finally gave in after owning two other vacuum cleaners and bought this Dyson DC14 at wal mart. i was leaning towards the animal but after reading reviews decided that it wasn't really worth the extra cost. i am amazed by how much the dyson picked up! my carpets are spotless. i even used it on my hardwood floors and got really good results. dyson has a 5 year guarantee and wal mart offers a 2 year service plan. hopefully i won't need to use either one- either way, very happy that i spent the money since i can finally breathe in my apartment again! (it has some allergy certification that i couldn't find on most of the other vacuums i looked at btw)

I really wanted to like this set of vacuums. I like bagged vacuums because they are much cleaner and don't get clogged filters. The upright works well, though it doesn't clean any better than any other upright I have had. It is lightweight, and has a long cord and a bright light. Because it does not have on-board tools, I needed to use the smaller vacuum to clean my couch cushions. The small vacuum is very noisy with an unpleasant high pitch. It does not pick up all that well, and my back hurts after I use it. In all, I would rather have a somewhat heavier vacuum that has attachments. It takes less time and less bending to use a wand on an upright than on a portable. I tried using the portable cleaner with the shoulder strap, and it swung around and was not at all practical or comfortable. If you will only use the upright, you may be happy with this purchase. I have had this Dyson DC14 All Floors for almost a year. This product (and possibly other Dyson models) seems to have a design flaw. Its base is too low to the ground. Specifically, a vacuum must have sufficient clearance, so that it will not trap and drag small debris that it cannot pick up. Dyson has the lowest clearance of any vac one can see on store displays. Its low clearance from the floor makes it a floor wrecking machine.

We moved into my brand-new house that has hardwood floors throughout. Very soon we started noticing small scratches everywhere on our wood floors. We couldn't find the culprit for a few weeks, until we SAW our Dyson leave a deep, six-foot-long groove on our family room floor. I looked underneath and noticed multiple little scratches on the very bottom of the base. Clearly, that was the part that was doing the damage. The base was catching and dragging sand across the floor. The sand would scratch both the base and the floor. I contacted Dyson. They investigated the matter and said that there was nothing wrong with the machine. This is how it works.--Whatever it does not pick up on the first pass, it will drag until the debris gets sucked in eventually or worked into the floor. The floor ends up being the victim. I urge you to judge by yourselves--take a look at how low the base is. It shouldn't be so low. Most Dyson owners probably don't have a clue the kind of damage their beloved vacuum does to the hardwood portion of their floors, because most people have little hardwood in their houses.

My other issue with Dyson is that they behave like a cheap third-world manufacturer that couldn't care less about its brand reputation. I contacted Dyson's customer service for help. I sent them the vac for investigation. One look at the base reveals that there is something wrong--there are too many scratches on the base of a vac that is only months old! Dyson customer service reps took the easy way out--they said Dyson was not responsible for any damage to the floors, because the scratch was made by an external object. Yes, the scratch was made by specs of sand that the vac was supposed to pick up and not catch and drag. Dah... Now I have $800 worth of damage to my floors and a $500 vacuum that I cannot use. Dyson left me out in the cold. Stay away from this brand if you have hardwood floors! There are other manufacturers with competitive vacuum cleaners that also stand by their products. I decided to write an Amazon review after losing my 3rd Dyson vacuum yesterday...the 3rd one in under 5 years. My first 2 Dyson vacs were the DC-14 models. The first vacuum lasted around 2.5 years and did a very good job...for a while. After losing suction, it wasn't worth the cost to repair the vacuum & motor. I bought a second DC-14, which never seemed to have the suction of the first one but the motor burnt out after a year or so. I attributed this to extended use (2-3 times a week) vacuuming 2100 sq foot house (mostly the living room, dining room, computer room, 1 bedroom) 2-3 times/week. So, I upgraded to the DC-17 Animal or Absolute because I do have 2 shedding dogs and 1 cat...thought I'd have better luck with an "animal" friendly vacuum.

Well, yesterday, the purple Animal or Absolute Dyson (DC-17) died...and I was so upset 'cause the thing cost me nearly $600 approximately 1 year ago. The DC-17 started to consistently lose suction and power over the past several months. Buttons (on-off, brush) stopped working properly. Vacuum CONSTANTLY started to over heat after 5 minutes of use. I cleaned the filter regularly after being told that an unclean filter contributed to the motor burnout of my 2nd DC-14 (???). However, like the second Dyson, this model disappointed after one year of careful use.

I now bought a Bissell Dual Cyclonic Lift Off, which does not receive great reviews here on Amazon. I, too bought into the Dyson hype. I feel saddened that I have parted with yet another Dyson. When they work, the Dyson vacs clearly do a job unsurpassed by other vacuum cleaners. But with a life of under 2 years, I cannot afford these things at $600 a pop! After reading through dozens of vacuum reviews today, perhaps 1 year is the "new" shelf life on vacuums. My mom had a Hoover for 15 years; my husband has a Rainbow that has worked for 18 years.
